“Reminds us of man’s inhumanity to man and also of the enduring spirit of the people who survived the horrors of the war.” The National Herald

Filmmakers Larry Confino and Larry Russo vibrantly recall the idyllic city of Kastoria, where Jews and Christians lived side-by-side for millennia until the black snow fell and World War II arrived on their doorstep.

Using never-before-seen archival footage and heartrending interviews with survivors and their families, Trezoros (Ladino/Judeo-Spanish term of endearment meaning ‘treasures’) chronicles the true-life tragedy of an unassuming village rocked by unimaginable horror, one that is echoed across Europe.

While Kastoria was home to a peaceful Sephardic community existing since the Roman Empire, of the 1000-strong people who were taken during Nazi occupation, only 35 returned.
