We will be one big happy family. Right, Dad? Right, Mum?

An incendiary psychological thriller, Fan opens with 11 year-old Lemonia (Danai Androulaki) holding a hand grenade and holding court over her mother (Irini Drakou) and father (Giorgos Valais). After enduring their ceaseless fighting, she is a child on the edge.

Through flashbacks, we see the events – uncomfortable silences punctuated with bouts of rage – that have escalated to this point. We also embark on the strangest family vacation ever where Lemonia acts as a tyrannical director and her parents as her cast.

In his distinctive way, filmmaker Dimitris Bitos turns “childhood vengeance into stark neorealist poetry” simultaneously “offering the most poignant answer to the cruelty and selfishness that rule the adult world” (Athens International Film Festival).

“The filming is blunt. My goal is for the actors’ performances to shine unhurriedly through the serenity that only cinematographic time may construe.” Dimitris Bitos
