Elvis Presley was also a gypsy…
From India to Egypt, and Sweden to Britain, the Roma people are the Wandering Kings of the Road, a steady stream of human geography that sometimes lives outside the law and social acceptance.
In this documentary, filmmaker Marina Danezi gives voice to the all-singing, all-dancing, all-partying Greek Roma people who claim, for them, survival is an everyday challenge – “people who live on the streets learn more than those who go to school.” That sense of survival can encourage them to break the law, but still the Roma people stay fiery and proud.
Danezi’s cameras enter the Roma communities of Attica, Argolida and Ilia, where she details a previously inaccessible world. Contrary to popular opinion, the filmmakers were welcomed with warm hearts and open arms. As one of the interviewees in the documentary says, “Us gypsies are a mysterious people…”
