THE ESSENTIAL VIEWING GUIDE

Liza and all the others (2003)

Set in hip modern day Athens, this cross between Bridget Jones’s Diary and Sex in the City follows the encounters of an attractive young woman in her pursuit of the ideal male partner.

It’s a Long Road (1997)

Three independent stories of three middle aged men who, in confronting their personal demons, find themselves at crossroads in their lives.

According to David Stratton,

“(The) intimate portraits of three tormented characters are filled with compassion and affection”. One of Voulgaris’ finest films.

Delivery (2004)

A gritty look at the underclass of urban Athens, the film depicts the marginalised realities of the city’s dejected, angry, helpless and discarded people.

Like Chef Like God (2004)

Thodorakis keeps changing jobs and women, looking for something worth devoting himself to. Despite the affections of an adoring aunt and the spiritual guidance of Agios Fanourios, his rather lackadaisical attitude only changes when he accidentally discovers his talent for cooking. He soon becomes a chef and joins a secret society of cooks.
