Welcome to the 4th Brisbane Greek Film Festival.

The Greek Orthodox Community of Saint George - Brisbane in partnership with Palace Centro Cinemas is proud to present the 4th Greek Film Festival. The festival will run between Tuesday 27th September and Sunday 2nd October at the Palace Centro Cinemas – James Street, Fortitude Valley.

Opening night will feature the premiere of the highly acclaimed “Brides”, the award winning masterpiece, (10 awards at the 2004 Thessaloniki International Film Festival) directed by Pantelis Voulgaris and Produced by Martin Scorsese. This visually beautiful film starring Damian Lewis and Victoria Haralabidou has been a huge hit in Greece. Set in 1922, “Brides” is the story of Niki, a seamstress from Samothrace on her way to America with 700 other mail order brides aboard the SS King Alexander. On the ship she falls in love with Norman – an American photographer. This poignant tale tells the personal and intimate story of a doomed love affair between the star-crossed lovers.

A wedding reception style after-party to be held at Palace Centro, will follow the screening of the opening film. Guests will be treated to a light Greek Supper, Greek music – DJ Kossi and a bridal fashion parade – fashions by Red Square and Paul Hunt.

The Greek festival will highlight a selection of the best in both contemporary and retrospective Greek Cinema produced in Greece over the last 12 months. This years program includes: Brides, Love at Sixteen, Testosterone, Real life, Dust, Like Chef like God, Liza and all the others, Hostage, Marathon, The Weeping Meadow, and Rakushka.

All Festival films are restricted to persons 18 years of age and over unless specified. This relates not necessarily to the content of the films, but to the legal requirements of holding the Festival, as set by the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC). As such, no exceptions will be made.

Stone Years is classified MA 15+
